Dave’s Pizza Garage Review (Tallahassee, FL)
By William Kristoph
Last Friday, I grabbed a quick lunch at Dave’s Pizza Garage on North Monroe Street. I’m always searching for good pizza in Tallahassee, and Dave’s was on my short list of places to try. An immediate plus for Dave’s Pizza Garage is the location, which has ample parking! Hooray! I walked in, checked out a menu briefly and placed an order with Dave himself for a small pepperoni pizza.
Inside Dave’s Pizza Garage
Dave’s Pizza Garage is a fun place to sit and check out the stuff on the walls while waiting for the food to arrive. There’s random Buffalo stuff (Dave’s hometown) and European stuff too. It’s an eclectic mix and it creates a nice atmosphere that most pizza places lack.
The Pepperoni Pizza
My pizza arrived quickly (I was the only one inside the restaurant for an early lunch) and it was absolutely loaded with toppings. The cheese and pepperoni were plentiful. The sauce looked right and the pizza was well-baked. See for yourself:
Anybody can do fresh toppings and good sauce. For me personally, I look for the NY-style thin and chewy crust. Dave’s crust is not NY-style, despite Dave hailing from Buffalo, NY. (This is where we can have an argument about how different upstate New York is from “The City.”) The crust is nearly smack in the middle of pan and thin crust. If you’re a fan of that, then I truly believe Dave’s Pizza Garage is the best pizza in Tallahassee for you. The crust was baked perfectly, the cheese melted nicely and the pepperoni was perfectly greasy.
What’s my overall verdict? Dave’s Pizza Garage serves up a very good pizza that is reasonably priced. The staff is friendly and the restaurant’s interesting interior entertains while waiting for the pizza. It’s worth a look if you’re in the downtown Tallahassee area.
I rated Dave’s Pizza Garage “I Like It” on Urbanspoon.
