Mike’s Stone Baked Pizza – Tallahassee, FL

My original review of Mike’s Stone Baked Pizza still stands. Mike’s Stone Baked Pizza is the best in Tallahassee, bar none. Whatever business issues caused Mike’s to close for a bit didn’t affect the quality or the taste of the food. Everything is fresh and everything is good. The pizza is the best New York style pizza I’ve had since leaving the New York / Connecticut area years ago. It’s thin and chewy and flavorful, not the cracker crust some pizza parlors pass off as “NY Style.”

Not too long ago I was complaining about how I’m usually disappointed with pizza in town. Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of places that I like. I like Momo’s, I like Decent Pizza and for some cheap, chain-style pizza I even like Marco’s Pizza. But, I was still looking for something that reminded me of the New York Style pizza I enjoyed as a kid growing up in New England. If you don’t already know, that means a good, chewy and floppy crust combined with a not-too-sweet sauce and fresh toppings. For years I’ve been searching for that in Tallahassee. The perfect combo. Until recently I had no luck finding it.
