What Should Tallahassee Eat? – The Bada Bean

By William Kristoph

The Bada Bean (Tallahassee, FL) Review

The Bada Bean is yet another place on my list of places in town that “I drove by 100 times and never stopped in.” In fact, I probably drove by The Bada Bean much more than 100 times. I always loved the name, but did I love the food and coffee? I promise nobody is threatening to have me sleep with the fishes or give me concrete shoes when I say that I can’t wait to head back to try some more food at The Bada Bean. It’s a pleasant coffee-house atmosphere with much better food choices than any other coffee-house where I dined.

What Should Tallahassee Eat? – Craig’s Killer Coffee

By William Kristoph

Craig’s Killer Coffee (Tallahassee, FL) Review

Craig’s is another on my long list of places in Tallahassee that I drove by forever, yet didn’t stop in. I decided to change that one Saturday morning while I waited on some stores to open. Craig’s Killer Coffee is the definition of a dive, and I mean that in the best way. It’s literally a counter, maybe 8 stools and a bunch of coffee and kitchen items staring you in the face on the other side of the coffee bar. It’s the kind of place that I find it pretty awesome to hang out in for a few minutes.

The service was excellent. The barista was quick to offer help on anything tha I might be interested in. I knew that I wanted a latte, but I was sure which of the endless number of syrups to try. I hemmed and hawed for a minute while he attended to one of the regular’s tea (which also smelled amazing). I ended up going with my go-to latte, vanilla. Within a couple of minutes the latte was ready.

First off, the smell inside of Craig’s is just wonderful if you love coffee shops. There’s a blend of coffee, tea and whatever Craig is making behind the counter. It’s a nice way to wake up the senses. The barista served my latte in the typical paper cup in case I wanted it to go, but something was distinctly different about the cup and it makes a ton of difference. The lid has an extra hole in the center, which lets the coffee aroma make it to your nostrils. I’m sure part of the reason my latte at Craig’s Killer Coffee was so delicious is due to the aroma being able to make it to my nose.

I’m not truly reviewing the food, since I didn’t eat anything. The best that I can say is that I want to go back to Craig’s Killer Coffee and try something. The muffins were large and smelled great. Craig was building, yes, building, the biggest Quiche I’ve ever seen with a ton of fresh ingredients. It looked amazing. One of the regulars that was sitting near me confirmed that pretty much everything is awesome and worth a try eventually.

Craig’s Killer Coffee definitely lives up to the name. My latte was killer and a great way to start a rainy morning. It’s usually a good sign when regulars walk in and there were plenty running in and out while I was sitting at Craig’s. I rated Craig’s Killer Coffee “I like it” on Urbanspoon and I think it’s definitely worth a trip.
