What Should Tallahassee Eat? – Vertigo Burgers and Fries

Vertigo Burgers & Fries (Tallahassee, FL) Review

By William Kristoph

Before Vertigo Burgers & Fries opened I decided that I would give them until October to get the kinks worked out before I stopped in and tried it. Other members of the #TFBA and Urbanspooners didn’t wait and Vertigo paid the price on their Urbanspoon page for some opening day jitters. I can safely say that my experience at Vertigo Burgers & Fries was void of those kinks. But, did I like it? Read on.

I decided to order a Straight Up Burger, so that I could eliminate any weird cheeses or ingredients when considering my feelings about a burger from Vertigo. I ordered, paid and had my food in about ten minutes. The staff was friendly and there was plenty of room to sit down at 11am when I headed over for an early lunch. Vertigo was pleasant enough to hang out in for 20 minutes while I ate.

Regarding the Straight Up and fries, I’ll start with the positives. The burger was cooked to my order (well done), and the toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickle and red onion) were crispy and cold. It was definitely not the worst burger I’ve ever had.

What Should Tallahassee Eat? – Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack

Bird’s Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack Review

First off, I blew it. I forgot to take pictures. Even while I was watching Mike take pictures all over Bird’s and Joe was busy trying to photo-bomb them, I forgot to take a picture of my burger. Here is a picture of a frog that was a stowaway in my car until I let him out in the Bird’s parking lot, instead. Good luck to the little guy. I hope it makes it downtown.

The Burger and French Fries

When it comes to a review of a burger, I like to keep it basic. It’s not fair to try some off the wall flavors and then write it up if I don’t like the particular combo I chose. At Bird’s I went with a very traditional 10 oz burger, with lettuce, tomato, cheese and grilled onions. If you like your burgers thick, then Bird’s is for you. As usual, Bird’s cooked mine to a nice medium, with enough pink for my liking but no mooing. The meat is flavorful, and is not overpowered by salt, thankfully. The toppings were fresh and the grilled onions added the sweetness that I wanted.

What Should Tallahassee Eat? – Yes, I’m Really Reviewing Whataburger

By William Kristoph

So, generally you won’t see fast food reviewed by anyone online. Why? Fast food is food too, and frankly, we all scarf it down on occasion. Fast food deserves an occasional review!!! So, caught between a rock and a hard place with time yesterday, my wife and I headed over to the Whataburger on Thomasville Rd. Why? It was convenient and their blitz of TV advertising for their patty melt finally worked its magic on us. Also, I can’t recall ever eating at a Whataburger before. I know I’ve been inside one to pick up a gift card and one other time late at night picking up some friends, but I really don’t remember eating there.

What Should Tallahassee Eat? – A&D Buffalo’s Burger Is Tasty

A&D Buffalo’s at Governor’s Square Mall Review

A Cheeseburger and French Fries from A&D Buffalo's

This was an unexpectedly good and tasty Cheeseburger and French Fries from A&D Buffalo’s at the Governor’s Square Mall in Tallahassee, FL.

My wife decided that brown bagging lunch was not an option the other day, so we made a break for Governor’s Square Mall for a quick bite to eat. Since I’ve been adventurous with trying new restaurants lately, I thought that I would give A&D Buffalo’s a shot. A&D Buffalo’s is the only game at the Mall for a burger and in all honesty, it was a satisfying and inexpensive lunch. Is it Monk’s? No, but much like Charley’s Grilled Subs, if you’re stuck at Governor’s Square then A&D Buffalo’s can satisfy your burger needs! Continue reading
