What Should Tallahassee Eat? – BurgerFi

BurgerFi (Tallahassee, FL) Review

I decided to try BurgerFi to see what the hype is about. A short trip over to the old Miracle Plaza with a small adventure involving trying to find a parking space (look behind the buildings) and I was ready to head in and order. Inside, I had a few minutes to look around while I waited in line. BurgerFi follows the seemingly standard upscale fast food burger joint decor. Metal, wood and the unfinished look flooring complete with music that is a bit too loud.

Yes, I’m getting old and cranky. No, it has absolutely nothing to do with the burgers.

A friend and helpful cashier took my To-Go order of a BurgerFi Cheeseburger with bacon and the “Cry and Fry” onion rings and fries. She handed me a cup and a pager. I made my way to the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine (they should rename them the Coca-Cola Choose Your Own Adventure Machine) and poured myself a Light Lemonade. Here’s my first issue with BurgerFi. The one size fits all cup is not To-Go friendly. Drink prices are already ridiculous, but I’m willing to toss in the extra $0.30 to $0.50 to have a cup that will last me the whole afternoon.

I waited for a few minutes. The BurgerFi crew hustles in the back nonstop thanks to all of the customers pouring through the door. My pager went off, and another smiling cashier greeted me and double checked my order before sending me on my way.

So how was the food?

The fries are some of the best I’ve had. They were crispy, salty, hot and fresh. Not too big, not too small. They are definitely worth an order. The onion rings, however, were a different story. For me, they are way too large which lead to the onion being undercooked for my liking. The crust was flavorless. I’d skip them next time and stick to the fries.

The burger? Well it was very good. It’s greasy, but it’s balanced with toppings well. The bacon was good. Wrapping it in wax paper makes eating BurgerFi a pleasant experience. It was a very good burger overall.

The final verdict

At $15+ for a burger, a drink and a Cry & Fry, BurgerFi is a pricey fast food option. I rated it “I like it” on Urbanspoon, because the food, especially the fries, is tasty. Personally, I’ll skip the onion rings in the future and I look forward to trying one of their milkshakes. It’s worth a stop for lunch if you’re in the area.
