Two favorites, tacos and burgers, unite in this recipe. My wife likes to make fun of my food “crush” aka the “How Sweet It Is” blog. She likes to joke, yes, but she also likes it when she is the beneficiary of a recipe from there. Last week, How Sweet posted Taco Rubbed Burgers with avocado and crushed tortilla chips. I HAD to try them. I love tacos. I LOVE hamburgers. I even love avocado on my burger normally. This burger sounded like a perfect opportunity to visit burger-heaven for a few minutes.
I’m not much for creativity. I’d rather make everyone else’s recipes and tweak them a bit to my liking. So, I didn’t use the above recipe to the letter. I made a few changes which I list below. I also don’t claim that I am a great cook, but I hope that you try this burger. It’s definitely a flavorful spin on a favorite food.
What I changed from the original Taco-Rubbed Burgers recipe:
- I used my own hamburger recipe. It’s a closely guarded secret, but it’s what I do on the grill when it’s hamburger time. Yes, it involves more than forming patties out of the meat. No, I won’t tell you any more than that.
- I took a taco season shortcut and used Old El Paso Taco Seasoning.
- I skipped the salsa verde because I didn’t have any.
- I used regular hamburger buns with sesame seeds instead of a whole wheat one.
