Not too long ago I was complaining about how I’m usually disappointed with pizza in town. Don’t get me wrong there are plenty of places that I like. I like Momo’s, I like Decent Pizza and for some cheap, chain-style pizza I even like Marco’s Pizza. But, I was still looking for something that reminded me of the New York Style pizza I enjoyed as a kid growing up in New England. If you don’t already know, that means a good, chewy and floppy crust combined with a not-too-sweet sauce and fresh toppings. For years I’ve been searching for that in Tallahassee. The perfect combo. Until recently I had no luck finding it.
Then I was told about Mike’s Stone Baked Pizza.
When I visited, it was as if God sent down pizza perfection to Tallahassee. Okay, maybe that’s a bit much, but Mike’s Stone Baked is the best pizza I’ve had in a very long time. The toppings were super fresh. The crust was chewy, not burned. The sauce wasn’t sweet. Instead, it was just super tasty savory pizza sauce.
Tomato, Basil and Olive Oil pizza was absolutely to die for on two different occasions so far! I’m looking forward to the NCAA Baseball Regional so that I have an excuse to check it out again. It’s a hole-in-the-wall off of Lake Bradford Road, but it’s worth it to find a parking spot somewhere and enjoy a slice or ten of their pizza.
